We know you have heard it so much before; You should vacuum seal your food. Now you may be wondering, why is this such a big deal? Well, there are a lot of reasons why vacuum sealing or proper food packaging is important. It is not only important for storage or freshness, but it is also important for your health.
Proper food packaging and sealing help protect foods against physical, chemical, and environmental factors that could contaminate your food. Proper packaging also allows the food to last much longer than it could if it were not packaged or sealed correctly after opened.
Vacuum sealing your food and properly packaging it can protect the food from spoiling. It keeps dust particles, air, water, and other contaminants that may lead to your food getting contaminated with some deadly bacteria away from your leftovers. If you are one of those people thinking that this is not important and you store your leftovers on a plate in the fridge, it may lead to some serious consequences.
When buying packaged food from the market or shops, it is ideal to check the food to see if the package is well sealed. This should be done before making the purchase. If you get home and you see that one of the packages is open, you should immediately vacuum seal it. Our Vacuum Seal Bags are perfect for this occasion. Storing an open package could result in a large number of contaminants and bacteria entering your body. This could be deadly.
The best way to protect yourself from these types of bacteria is to purchase a vacuum sealer and get into the habit of vacuum sealing most of your food products.
Our SaveSealer Vacuum Sealer is built to keep air, dirt, and all chemicals out of your food being sealed. We want to protect our customers from any contamination possibilities.
Luckily these days most companies in the food industry are aware of the chemicals the packaging can release. When food companies start the packaging process, they usually take into consideration the ink used for printing and the materials in which the food is being packed.
If these food industries did not pay attention to small details such as these, the food we consume could even become poisoned by the chemicals in the material being used for packaging.
Even though these companies are paying attention to such small details these days, mistakes do happen. Not all packaging is safe and food can still be contaminated if stored for a long period in the original packaging. For this reason, as mentioned above, it is important to make use of a vacuum sealer and vacuum sealing bags if you want to store your food for longer.
So, we have been talking about vacuum sealing your food for freshness and safety, but did you know some foods should not be vacuum sealed at all?
What types of food should not be vacuum sealed?
Some foods contain anaerobic bacteria. This bacteria can grow without the presence of air. So, it can grow within a vacuum-sealed pouch, with reduced oxygen. These bacteria will grow and may pose a risk to your health.
Do not vacuum seal the following food:
- raw mushrooms
- soft cheeses (blue cheese, brie, camembert, ricotta, and other soft and unpasteurized cheeses)
- freshly cooked or steamed vegetables (safe to vacuum seal after they are at room temperature)
Many common vegetables emit gas when stored. Vegetables, in the Cruciferae or Brassicaceae family, are especially dangerous when kept in a vacuum-sealed bag. The gas will also spoil them faster. To store these vegetables properly they should be blanched, dried, then vacuum sealed and frozen for storage.
The vegetables that should be blanched first:
- bok choy
- brussels sprouts
